About Atum Works

We're a well-funded startup on a mission to extend humanity's ability to structure matter at the smallest scales in three dimensions. Atum Works is building the world's first scalable 3D lithography foundry, unlocking nanoscale manufacturing and forging the next generation of microelectronics. By crossing the cost and speed thresholds that make 3D microfabrication commercially viable, we're enabling technology to finally catch up with nature's three-dimensional complexity and opening the door to a future of full-dimensional manufacturing.

Position Summary

Your mission is to develop the electrochemical processes for complex meso-nano architected 3D structures. You'll engineer deposit microstructure from first principles, solve conformal deposits on geometries that shouldn't be platable, engineering reliability and lifetime through recipe design and process optimization. Your processes will rapidly scale to high-volume production and be subject to the highest industry standards.

The Senior Process Engineer reports to the CTO.

Responsibilities

  • Own electrochemical process development from beaker to rack plating lines
  • Engineer grain size, texture, residual stress, and composition for target properties
  • Develop a digital twin and maximize experimental leverage
  • Control interfacial reactions and characteristics
  • Work directly with chemistry suppliers and equipment vendors to implement high volume solutions
  • Build the process control frameworks that let us scale
  • Hire and develop your team as we grow
  • Develop IP

Qualifications

  • PhD in Materials Science, Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Metallurgy—or MS with 10+ years in the field
  • 5+ years hands-on electrodeposition process development
  • Strong physical metallurgy foundation: grain boundaries, recrystallization, texture, structure-property relationships
  • Experience with mechanical reliability of thin films—fatigue, adhesion, wear, thermal cycling
  • Familiarity with nanocrystalline or fine-grained deposits and their thermal stability
  • History of taking processes from lab to production

Preferred

  • Background in semiconductor packaging, MEMS, PCB, or interconnect metallization
  • Experience with electrochemical, fluid dynamics, electromagnetic, and/or molecular dynamics modeling

Logistics

  • Location – Mountain View, California. On-site.
  • Compensation – $160K–$400K+ depending on experience, plus equity. Medical, dental, vision, 401k matching.
