Risk Operations (Underwriting) - SLC, Utah

As an early member of Slope’s team, you help execute and maintain operational initiatives that manage credit and fraud for Slope’s growing customer base. This role requires a strong understanding of risk management processes and the ability to analyze payment, credit, operational and compliance risk. It is also important to balance these initiatives while managing the customer needs. In this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of a customer's financial health along with operational flows associated with payments and lending.

What you'll do:

  • Responsible for the underwriting and credit review process, including tracking customer submissions, building a financial case, providing a recommendation in adherence to our risk policies, and meeting SLAs for decisions.

  • Analyze and evaluate risk associated with new and existing business opportunities. Review client applications, financial statements, and other relevant data to determine risk levels.

  • Reviewing individual transactions and risks within Slope’s compliance process.

  • Engage with clients and brokers to gather necessary information, address inquiries, and provide recommendations. Maintain strong relationships to facilitate smooth underwriting processes.

  • Iterate with customer success, product and engineering teams on the customer experience.

  • Maintain records on underwriting decisions, risk assessments, and client interactions. Ensure that everything is accurate, organized, and compliant with company policies.

  • Interact with customers and partners directly on requests that will impact credit results.

  • Educate internal teams and customers on Slope’s risk policies and ensure compliance across accounts and on all transactions, including payments, loans and collections.

  • Work directly with internal and external stakeholders on documentation of procedures, escalations and risk updates across the company; iterate risk processes to maximize operational efficiency.

  • Collaborate with other teams, including sales, legal, and compliance, to ensure that our underwriting practices are in sync with company goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Partner with data science, customer success, and credit risk to develop KPIs and build monitoring dashboards.

  • Ensure timely repayment from customers through outbound and inbound communication across email, SMS and live channels.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience in risk underwriting/management.

  • Experience with consumer / small business lending and payments risk management

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; confident in handling complex and challenging conversations with customers.

  • Experience in customer support or customer success is a plus

  • Attention to detail, strong work ethic, and a relentless drive.

  • Excel and enjoy a collaborative and in-person workplace.

  • Comfortable with handling ambiguity and creating processes from scratch. We are growing fast and still learning.

  • A demonstrated ability to get stuff done. In an ideal world, you’ve worked in a fast-growing company and know what we should be doing today, in one year, and in two years.

  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.

  • Iterative mindset.

  • Travel required once a quarter.

  • Strong skill set with Google Documents/Sheets/Slides, Microsoft Excel (creating charts, formulas, pivot tables, and v-lookups).

  • SQL and Python are strongly preferred.

  • Greater Salt Lake CIty area required.
